T&C Tree Care

is hereby recognized as a

TOP GUN Professional Business!

Norman Harlan, you are considered a champion business owner for building and managing T&C Tree Care, a  Tree Services company in Horry County.

Small businesses are the backbone of the United States economy.

The owners of these small businesses are entrepreneurs who often take significant financial and operational risks, provide employment opportunities, and contribute creativity and ingenuity to the commerce of local communities, towns, cities, and counties. Many business owners work long hours, endure challenging times, and make personal sacrifices in order to serve their communities.

Our research team at Expansion Support Services, owners of the County Advisory Board, identified T&C Tree Care as a business that is appreciated by its customers and provides valuable services to the community.

The company’s continued success speaks to the dedication and ability of Norman Harlan to overcome the many business obstacles and barriers that are part and parcel of business ownership. With more than 20 years in the tree service industry, Norman has developed a deep understanding of arboriculture and a passion for providing quality work while maintaining the highest standards of safety and integrity.

Norman’s journey into the tree care profession began unexpectedly. Early in his career, a friend was struggling to remove a pine tree that was threatening to pull another tree down while attempting to remove it with a tractor. Norman stepped in to help by using his truck to safely bring the tree down. A nearby neighbor complimented him on the job he had done, and that simple moment sparked something that would eventually grow into a lifelong career.

Inspired by the experience, Norman sought out a company that would teach him the proper techniques of tree cutting and removal. Once he began learning the trade the right way, he quickly became hooked and started diving deeper into what he describes as the true art of arboriculture.

One defining moment in Norman’s career helped shape the principles that guide his business today. While working for another company, he was asked to climb a dead tree that he believed was unsafe. When he refused due to the risk involved, he was fired. Another climber was sent up the tree and tragically fell, suffering a broken back. That moment reinforced Norman’s belief that the only way to work in this industry is with safety and integrity at the forefront of every decision.

Following that experience, Norman began working independently and eventually spent several years in California on a long-term project with PG&E, the state’s major power company. During that time, he had the opportunity to work alongside some of the most experienced professionals in the country. Those years allowed him to refine his skills and develop a deeper understanding of tree health, including how to recognize when trees can be preserved rather than removed. This experience helped him develop the philosophy that arboriculture is not just a service, but a craft.

Today, the knowledge and expertise he gained benefit the customers of T&C Tree Care. Many jobs can be completed without heavy equipment, helping to protect clients’ lawns and landscaping from unnecessary damage while still delivering high-quality results. As a family-based business, the company takes pride in performing work carefully and responsibly while treating each property with respect.

Beyond providing professional tree services, Norman and his team are also known for giving back to their community. The company makes a habit of performing at least one good deed each month. Sometimes this means helping a lower-income family with tree trimming or removal at little or no cost. Other times they assist local organizations that may need help maintaining their properties.

During major storms, Norman has been known to step in and help clear roads or remove fallen trees so neighbors can safely get in and out of their neighborhoods. In one instance during a storm in Florida, he spent time helping lower-income residents remove dangerous trees from their properties free of charge and even helped clear debris from the streets.

When he’s not working, Norman enjoys spending time outdoors fishing, hunting, riding ATVs, and working with wood. A passionate woodworker, he often repurposes wood from tree removals into furniture and other creative projects. Above all, he values spending time with his family, whether enjoying the outdoors together or relaxing during family movie nights.

We take this moment to acknowledge and thank Norman Harlan for the past, present, and future contributions that T&C Tree Care and its staff have made and will continue to make in Horry County.
