Over the years, Larry worked with different dealerships, including positions in the Belle Glade and Sebring areas, gaining valuable experience in both customer service and the operational side of automotive repair.
An opportunity to become a business owner eventually presented itself through a friend who owned a shop that had closed. When new ownership of the location was being considered, Larry was approached about establishing his own business in a property that had previously operated as a body shop. Larry recognized the opportunity and brought his years of automotive knowledge and experience into a business of his own.
For Larry, Belle Glade was also a natural place to do it. Having spent most of his life in the area, he is a hometown member of the community who had already built a strong reputation and meaningful relationships throughout the region.
Today, D & L Automotive Repair is truly a family business.
Larry and Dorys give a tremendous amount of credit to their grandson, Erik Barnes, for the impact he has made on the company’s success. What initially began with the expectation that Erik would help around the shop turned into something much greater. Erik took the opportunity seriously, embraced the responsibility, and has grown into running the shop and overseeing its day-to-day operations. Larry and Dorys are extremely proud of the job he has done and the important role he now plays in the future of the family business.
Dorys Barnes is equally important to what keeps D & L Automotive Repair running. While the automotive repairs are handled in the shop, Dorys takes responsibility for virtually everything else necessary to keep the business organized and operating. Her interactions with customers have also helped create the welcoming atmosphere for which the business is known.
Working closely alongside Dorys is her right-hand assistant and future granddaughter-in-law, Avery Hanson. Avery has become another valued member of the D & L Automotive Repair family, providing dependable support and helping ensure that customers and staff receive the attention they deserve. Her positive attitude, helpfulness, and dedication have not gone unnoticed, as both the staff and customers consistently rave about her and the contribution she makes to the business.
