The journey took approximately five years from start to finish, including roughly three years devoted to rehabilitating the building itself. During that time, Cathryn-Rachel put countless hours into pursuing every grant opportunity she could find and searching for resources that could help transform her vision into reality. She also won a business pitch competition, providing further validation that what she envisioned could become something special for Detroit.
What emerged from those years of persistence was more than a restored building and more than a balloon store. Cathryn-Rachel helped revive a community landmark and give it a new purpose.
Today, Detroit Balloon Store – Bouncing Around The Motor City operates as a retail and wholesale balloon and party business while offering professional balloon décor, balloon twisting, face painting, inflatables, concessions, tables, chairs, linens, party rentals, and numerous other celebration services. The location also features a 3,000-square-foot event venue capable of hosting up to 100 guests, allowing the building Cathryn-Rachel fought to preserve to once again become a place where people can gather, celebrate, learn, and create memories.
Cathryn-Rachel has also invested extensively in developing her craft, traveling around the world to master balloon techniques and further develop her artistry. Her business describes its mission as going beyond balloons by emphasizing community advocacy, balloon education, artistic development, and becoming a positive resource within Detroit.
That commitment to the community can also be seen through Cathryn-Rachel’s charitable and volunteer efforts. She is passionate about developing young people and teaching youth entrepreneurship, helping children understand that their creativity, ideas, and talents can potentially become opportunities of their own.
Cathryn-Rachel also volunteers with Destination for Greatness and continues to support charitable and community causes. As a mother of five children, investing in young people and encouraging the next generation carries an especially personal significance.

Cathryn-Rachel participates with other balloon artists in large-scale charitable balloon projects designed to help raise money for causes benefiting children.
