Animal Hospital of Northwood
is hereby recognized as a
TOP GUN Professional Business!
Dr. Don Woodman, you are considered a champion business owner for building and managing Animal Hospital of Northwood, a veterinarian company in Pinellas County.
Small businesses are the backbone of an economy.
The owners of these small businesses are entrepreneurs who often take financial and business risks, provide employment opportunities, and add their creativity and ingenuity to the overall commerce of a local community, town, city, and county. Many business owners work long hours, endure challenging times, and make personal sacrifices.
Our research team at Expansion Support Services, owners of the County Advisory Board, identified Animal Hospital of Northwood as a business that is appreciated by its clients and provides valuable veterinary services throughout Pinellas County and the surrounding communities.
The continued success of Animal Hospital of Northwood speaks to the dedication and ability of Dr. Don Woodman to overcome the many business obstacles and barriers that are part and parcel of business ownership.
For Dr. Woodman, veterinary medicine has been a calling from an early age. By the time he was 12 years old, he had read the James Herriot veterinary books several times, and at 15 he began working at a cat clinic—an experience that confirmed the career path he wanted to follow. After completing his undergraduate education at New College in Sarasota, he attended Virginia Tech’s School of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 1995. Dr. Woodman relocated to the Clearwater area following graduation and ultimately became the owner of Animal Hospital of Northwood on March 1, 2001.
Animal Hospital of Northwood itself has been serving the Safety Harbor community since 1984. Today, the hospital provides comprehensive veterinary care including wellness and life-stage examinations, dentistry, surgery, urgent care, diagnostic imaging, nutritional consultation, boarding, laser therapy, and specialized care for exotic animals. The practice serves pet owners throughout Safety Harbor, Clearwater, Dunedin, Palm Harbor, Oldsmar, and surrounding Pinellas County communities.
What truly distinguishes Dr. Woodman and his team, however, is their philosophy toward the relationship between veterinarian, patient, and pet owner. At Animal Hospital of Northwood, care comes before the clock. Appointments are not treated like an assembly line where every patient must fit into a predetermined amount of time. If an appointment requires additional attention—even if that means spending an hour with a patient and family—the focus remains on providing the care, education, answers, and personal attention they need.
That philosophy is especially important when an animal is sick. Dr. Woodman and his staff understand how frightening it can be when a beloved pet suddenly isn’t acting like itself. The practice makes caring for sick animals a priority, and its website confirms that same-day urgent-care appointments are available during regular business hours for sick pets that cannot wait for the next available appointment. The hospital also stays open until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, providing an extended-hours option for local pet owners.
And the word “pet” at Animal Hospital of Northwood means much more than dogs and cats. The hospital provides specialized exotic veterinary care for animals including rabbits, guinea pigs and other rodents, snakes, lizards, hedgehogs, ferrets, turtles, tortoises, amphibians, and birds. Its exotic-animal work has even included zoo animals such as tiger, leopard, and cougar cubs.
Their compassion for animals extends beyond those with owners. Animal Hospital of Northwood also serves as a community resource for injured and orphaned wildlife. The veterinary team works with organizations including the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Audubon Society, Wildlife Rescue and Rehab, and McGough Park, with the goal of treating wildlife and, whenever possible, returning those animals to their natural habitat.
Education and community involvement are also important parts of Dr. Woodman’s philosophy. Through hands-on educational opportunities with local schools, young people have an opportunity to learn more about animals and veterinary medicine. Dr. Woodman and Animal Hospital of Northwood have also given back through community organizations and causes including the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America, Toys for Tots, Gold Coast Greyhound Adoptions, Florida Lab Rescue, local schools, and Chamber activities.
Despite the demands of veterinary medicine and business ownership, Dr. Woodman also values quality time with his family and friends, enjoying beach walks and spending time in the community he has served for so many years.
We take this moment to acknowledge and thank Dr. Don Woodman for the past, present, and future contributions that Animal Hospital of Northwood and its staff have made and will continue to make throughout Pinellas County.
Dr. Don Woodman, you are highly commended and appreciated for being a veterinarian, educator, community supporter, and business owner who has made caring for animals—and the people who love them—the foundation of Animal Hospital of Northwood.
