Jolly Roger Custom Woodworking
is hereby recognized as a
TOP GUN Professional Business!
Roger Fink, you are considered a champion business owner for building and managing Jolly Roger Custom Woodworking, a custom woodworking company in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Through exceptional craftsmanship, perseverance, and a genuine commitment to giving back, you have grown a passion that began in a garage into a business trusted by local families, small businesses, celebrities, professional athletes, and entertainers. Your dedication to supporting cancer awareness, local nonprofits, and families facing difficult times demonstrates that your impact extends far beyond the custom pieces you create.
Small businesses are the backbone of an economy.
The owners of these small businesses are entrepreneurs who often take many financial and business risks, provide employment opportunities, and add their creativity and ingenuity to the overall commerce of a local community, town, and city. Many business owners work long hours, endure challenging times, and make personal sacrifices.
Our research team at Expansion Support Services, owners of the County Advisory Board, identified Jolly Roger Custom Woodworking as a business that is appreciated by its customers and provides valuable custom woodworking services.
Behind Jolly Roger Custom Woodworking is owner Roger Fink, whose journey into woodworking grew from a combination of creativity, family, and a desire to help others. While Roger was running a bar in North Dakota, his mother-in-law was diagnosed with breast cancer. Roger began creating and raffling off handcrafted pieces at the bar to help support the family during that difficult time. Just two months later, cancer struck even closer to home when Roger’s wife was also diagnosed.
What began as a way to use his talents to help people eventually developed into something much bigger. Roger spent years working out of his garage, building his skills and creating one-of-a-kind pieces. A major turning point came after Roger created a custom Detroit Red Wings piece and posted it on Facebook. The piece caught the attention of a member of the Detroit Red Wings corporate office, who reached out to Roger about creating custom work for the organization on a regular basis. That opportunity helped open new doors, and from there, Jolly Roger Custom Woodworking was off to the races.
As word of Roger’s craftsmanship continued to spread, so did the range of people seeking out his work. Today, his custom creations have been commissioned for celebrities, professional athletes, movie stars, and others in the entertainment industry. Yet despite working with some very recognizable names, Roger hasn’t forgotten where he came from. He remains just as willing to create something meaningful for a local family, small business, or mom-and-pop customer as he is for a professional organization or nationally recognized client.
For Roger, success is about more than who orders his work. It’s about creating something personal that people are proud to own, display, give as a gift, or keep as a lasting memory. Each custom piece represents an opportunity to take someone’s idea, passion, favorite team, business, family memory, or vision and transform it into something uniquely their own.
Family and community are also at the heart of Roger’s story. After years away, Roger and his wife made the decision to return to his hometown and the Virginia Beach area to be closer to family and to be where they felt they were needed most.
That commitment to others continues through Jolly Roger Custom Woodworking. Roger regularly gives back by supporting different nonprofit organizations and causes, including cancer awareness initiatives and programs that assist families with children battling cancer. He also supports causes connected to his former high school and local Virginia Beach organizations dedicated to fighting cancer and helping families affected by the disease.
Considering the role cancer played in the beginning of Roger’s woodworking journey, giving back isn’t simply something attached to the business — it is deeply connected to the reason his woodworking journey began in the first place. Roger has taken an incredibly difficult chapter in his family’s life and used it as motivation to create, give back, and help others.
When he isn’t creating custom pieces or supporting the community, Roger is a huge sports fan who enjoys golfing, surfing, and traveling with his wife whenever they have the opportunity.
The continued success of Jolly Roger Custom Woodworking speaks to Roger Fink’s craftsmanship, perseverance, creativity, and ability to overcome the many obstacles and barriers that are part and parcel of business ownership. His story is also an example of how a skill developed while working out of a garage can grow into a business serving everyone from everyday local families and small businesses to celebrities, professional athletes, entertainers, and professional organizations.
We take this moment to acknowledge and thank Roger Fink for the past, present, and future contributions that Jolly Roger Custom Woodworking has made and will continue to make in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and the surrounding community.
