Prantl Heating & Cooling

is hereby recognized as a

TOP GUN Professional Business!

Tom Wagner, you are considered a champion business owner for building and managing Prantl Heating & Cooling, a commercial and residential  HVAC company in Jefferson County.

Small businesses are the backbone of an economy.

The owners of these small businesses are entrepreneurs who often take significant financial and business risks, provide employment opportunities, and add their creativity and ingenuity to the overall commerce of a local community, town, city, and county. Many business owners work long hours, endure challenging times, and make personal sacrifices.

Our research team at Expansion Support Services, owners of the County Advisory Board, identified Prantl Heating & Cooling as a business that is appreciated by its customers and provides valuable HVAC services throughout Jefferson County, Alabama.

The story of Prantl Heating & Cooling is one built on family, service, community, and a tradition spanning more than 50 years.

Founded in 1975 by a family of firefighters, Prantl Heating & Cooling has spent five decades serving local homeowners and businesses. Those roots in public service remain an important part of the company’s identity. Although the company does not currently employ any full-time firefighters, it proudly welcomes firefighters who are interested in joining the team, including those seeking part-time opportunities.

Today, that 50 year tradition is being carried forward by owner Tom Wagner, whose own story is deeply rooted in service, leadership, and hard work.

After graduating from high school, Tom chose to serve his country by joining the United States Army, where he became a Black Hawk helicopter pilot. Following an honorable military career, Tom attended business school, which helped lead him into successful careers in transportation and home services.

In 2024, Tom met with the family behind Prantl Heating & Cooling and immediately recognized something special in the company’s history, reputation, and connection to the community. Those conversations led to the opportunity for Tom to carry the family’s legacy forward, and in January 2025, he officially purchased Prantl Heating & Cooling.

While ownership has changed, the values behind the company have not.

Tom is not an owner who simply manages the business from behind a desk. In addition to overseeing the company’s daily operations, he remains actively involved in the field as a technician, personally servicing customers and helping diagnose and resolve their heating and cooling needs.

Prantl Heating & Cooling continues to provide the kind of hometown service that can be increasingly difficult to find. When customers call, they have the opportunity to deal directly with the owner. Tom and his technicians are there to diagnose problems, make necessary repairs, and find the right solution—not to earn commissions by selling customers something they may not need.

That philosophy places customer solutions and satisfaction at the forefront. The company’s goal is to treat every customer like family, provide honest recommendations, and preserve the reputation for service and integrity that Prantl Heating & Cooling has spent more than 50 years building.

For Tom, family is also at the center of life outside of work. His wife and two daughters are the focal point of his free time. Whether he is watching his daughters enjoy their extracurricular activities or simply spending quiet time together as a family, those moments are among the ones he values most.

The company’s continued success speaks to Tom Wagner’s dedication and ability to overcome the many obstacles and barriers that are part and parcel of business ownership, while respecting and preserving the traditions established by the family that founded Prantl Heating & Cooling in 1975.

We take this moment to acknowledge and thank Tom Wagner for his service to our country and for the past, present, and future contributions that he, Prantl Heating & Cooling, and its staff have made and will continue to make throughout Jefferson County.
